Ukraine: China wants Russia and Ukraine to hold peace talks – Usky News

Beijing: China is concerned about the escalation of war in Ukraine and wants Moscow and Kiev to hold peace talks, senior Chinese diplomat Qin Gang told his Ukrainian counterpart on a phone call on Thursday.
China, which has refrained from condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, urged both sides to gradually de-escalate to a comprehensive ceasefire in its 12-point paper on a “political solution to the Ukraine crisis”. Agree to escalation.
The plan, which received a lukewarm reception on both sides, called for the safety of citizens and respect for each other’s sovereignty.
“China hopes that all sides will remain calm, reasonable and restrained and resume peace talks as soon as possible,” Qin told Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, according to a statement by China’s foreign ministry.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Russian Vladimir Putin as soon as next week and hold a virtual meeting with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky,
Analysts say it will be difficult for China to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table, but some said Xi could serve as a “back channel” to jump-start the pace of talks.
