Dismissing speculations that she is restricting herself to YRF, she said, “I am a mother now and my daughter is my priority. If I get a good script, I will work anywhere. My husband has worked with so many actors. Why shouldn’t I work outside?”
He further said, “He (Aditya Chopra) praises me behind my back. He was impressed by this film (‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’). He gave me a side hug as if I were his child. He said, ‘Well done,’ and I said, ‘Thank you.'”
Talking about the film and the real-life incident on which it is based, Rani revealed that she based her character on her mother Krishna Mukherjee and did not meet Sagarika Bhattacharya (whose story inspired the film), but Listen to his tapes. “I have not met Sagarika, never spoken to her. I wanted it to be an interpretation of my character. I didn’t want any stuff. I saw the tapes of the conversation with Ashima Chhibber (director). I understand the emotional graph. It was anger, frustration, loneliness. I sought inspiration from my mother. I have just taken my mother and put her in Mrs. Chatterjee. She is very attached to her Bengali roots. My mom was married to my dad 50 years ago and after living in Mumbai for 50 years, she still speaks Hindi and English with a strong Bengali flavor and accent. I think of her as a Bengali lioness. I was photographing my mother and how would she react if my brother and I were taken away from her. I do not understand that someone should take Adheera away from me.
