It’s a day to remember for India MM Keeravani and Chandrabose’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ has become the first Indian song from a Telugu production to win an Academy Award in ‘Best Original Song’ at the 95th Academy Awards.
ETimes got in touch with Benny Dayal who has sung the song ‘Sholay’ in the Tamil and Hindi versions of ‘RRR’. The singer was thrilled with India’s big win on the global stage. He said, “It was much awaited! I am extremely proud of him. I am also proud to be a part of this film and have sung ‘Sholay’ in Tamil and Hindi with Vishal Mishra. I have No words! I feel blessed and proud to be an Indian!

‘Naatu Naatu’ became the frontrunner in the Oscar race when it won the Golden Globe Award in the same category. The win made it the first Indian Telugu and Asian song to win the award.

The composer-lyricist’s win puts Indian music on the world map once again after AR Rahman, who had earlier won in the same category and also won Best Original Score for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ track ‘Jai Ho’ Was.

After a massive Oscar campaign, it was expected that SS Rajamouli’s RRR might find itself in the Best Picture or Best Director category, but the film failed to make it to the final nominations.
