With stunning shots of Tamil Nadu’s nature, ‘The Elephant Whispers’ tells the story of this loving relationship – and earned an Oscar nomination in the documentary short film category.

This 41-minute short documentary explores the temporary but precious bond between Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his caretakers – a mahout couple named Boman and Bailey – who try to protect him from poachers and raise him dedicates his life. The film was the directorial debut of Karthik Gonsalves. Having a successful career as a wildlife and social documentary photographer, photojournalist and cinematographer, Gonsalves quit his cushy job for his first venture.

Shedding some light on the film in an earlier interview, Guneet said, “‘The Elephant Whispers’ is a story of people who have been working with elephants for generations and are very aware of the needs of the forest. “

He further added, “There is a beautiful scene in the film which talks about taking from the forest, but only to the extent that is needed, and forests have enough for everyone.
