Domestic legal job market will see a boom – Usky News

MUMBAI: Recruitment firms expect to see a boom in the domestic legal talent market soon. based on move by forecast Bar Council of India (BCI) to allow foreign lawyers and law firms to practice foreign law and miscellaneous international law and arbitration matters in India.
executive search firm EMA Partners India MD K Sudarshan Said, “Given the earlier restrictions, there are only a few large law firms that operate in India and the rest are boutiques. A large portion of the search mandate focused on hiring an in-house general counsel. BCI’s move will now democratize the profession and open up opportunities for two-way interaction between foreign and Indian counterparts, as happens with other professional services firms. Global opportunities and expertise can now be made available locally and vice versa. ,
Nishith Desai Associates Leader (HR Law) Vikram Shroff Said the “much-awaited” entry of foreign law firms in India would provide significant opportunities to both experienced lawyers and talented students. Additionally, young students will have the ability to do internships with foreign law firms in India.
Shroff said, “As a law firm, we have been global since 2000, with offices in California, New York, Munich and Singapore, and comply with their Code of Conduct and KYC Criteria. The notification clarifies that foreign law firms will have to ‘in general’ adhere to the uniform ethical and practice standards prescribed under the Advocates Act. The foreign law firms will bring with them some advanced legal software, AI-enabled tools and innovative processes to assist the lawyers. This would go a long way in improving the overall quality of legal services delivery and benefit our country. ,
Shroff said India has the largest and most vibrant legal community in the world. In view of the reciprocity condition, Shroff said that more countries would be willing to welcome Indian lawyers to set up offices in their countries, which would also help in boosting the legal sector.
